Clanker Ledger

Mission

Cost. Transparency. Comic relief.

The invoice, the disclosure, and the joke — all out in the open.

Clanker Ledger follows the money around AI: what it costs to use, what providers disclose about the meter, and where the terms change. We also leave room to laugh at an industry that takes itself very seriously.

The Clerk: a small retro ledger robot with an antenna and a receipt.

A price only helps if you can understand it. We make the math legible, label our assumptions, and look for the details a rate card leaves out.

Transparency is the second promise

Cost is only half the story; a reader cannot act on a number they cannot check. So we keep our own receipts, label every simulation as a simulation, and quote only words someone actually typed or said — with the link. We expect the same of vendors: itemized metering a user can recompute, published notice before rates move, and no undisclosed pricing cohorts. Where disclosure exists, we credit it. Where a meter keeps users blind, we say so plainly.

The Margin

The Margin is our satire section, labelled as satire whenever it runs. It mocks AI mistakes, AI executives, the people selling AI, the policy written around it, and sometimes this publication, with no permanent target. In satire, invented quotes and posts are the tools of the trade, and the publication's label carries them. Screenshots are the one thing satire never fakes: an image of a post travels as evidence, and evidence is where the joking stops.

Clanker Corner

A planned record of dated model output, published with the full prompt, model version, settings, and unedited response. It is not live yet.

What we are not

We are not a model leaderboard or a launch-promo desk. We follow the prices, read the terms, ask what the meter counts, and make fun of the industry when it takes itself too seriously.

Stage

Clanker Ledger publishes its own reporting. We are not open for submissions yet.

Independence

No sponsor or covered company reviews content before publication. Some outbound links may earn a commission; that never determines what we cover. Sponsored placements are labelled.

Corrections

When we get a fact wrong, we will correct it in the open and say what changed. A working corrections channel is not set up yet.
